What Junk Haulers Can’t Take (and What to Do With It Instead)

Why some items get refused

It’s not us being picky — most of the items on this list are restricted by the landfill or by Texas state regulations. Hauling them off can result in fines and refused loads, so we follow the rules. The good news: every one of these has a proper disposal route locally.

Items we usually can’t haul

• Wet paint or open paint cans — must be dried out first.
• Tires — charged separately at most landfills; we can sometimes haul them for an extra fee.
• Asbestos or anything you suspect contains asbestos.
• Medical waste (sharps, prescriptions, biohazard).
• Pesticides, fertilizers, fuel, motor oil, and other hazardous chemicals.
• Live propane tanks, freon-containing units that haven’t been evacuated.
• Loose batteries (especially lithium and car batteries).

What to do with each one

You’ve got good local options for almost every restricted item. Here’s where most Royse City residents end up:

• Paint — add cat litter or hardener until fully dry, then it can go in normal trash. Unused paint can be donated to Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
• Tires — most local tire shops accept old tires for a small disposal fee when buying new ones.
• Hazardous chemicals — Rockwall County and surrounding counties hold periodic household hazardous waste drop-off days.
• Batteries — Home Depot, Lowe’s, AutoZone, and Best Buy all have free drop-off programs depending on type.
• Propane tanks — any propane refill station (Tractor Supply, U-Haul, etc.) will swap or accept.
• Medical waste — most pharmacies accept sharps containers and expired meds during take-back events.

What we CAN absolutely take

The vast majority of what you want gone, we haul without issue. That includes:

• Furniture, mattresses, appliances (washers, dryers, fridges, freezers).
• Garage and shed cleanouts.
• Remodel debris — cabinets, vanities, tile, flooring, drywall.
• Yard waste, fence panels, deck boards (non-treated in most cases).
• Whole-home cleanouts, rental trash-outs, hoarding-level cleanouts.
• Office furniture, retail fixtures, e-waste in reasonable quantities.
