It doesn’t all go to the dump

When the trailer pulls away, the load gets sorted, not dumped in one pile. Usable furniture and appliances get set aside for donation, scrap metal goes to metal recycling, restricted items go through their proper channels, and only what’s left rides to a permitted landfill. The landfills that serve this area

Royse City sits right on the Rockwall–Hunt county line, and the city’s own welcome packet points residents to two facilities:

• Maloy Landfill (Duncan Disposal / Republic Services) — 2811 FM 1568, Campbell, TX, out past Greenville in Hunt County. This is the closest landfill the City of Royse City lists for residents.
• CMH Landfill — 3175 Elm Grove Road, Rowlett, TX, west of Rockwall — the other facility on the city’s list.
• Hauling there yourself means a truck, a tarp (uncovered loads get fined on US-380 and I-30), gate fees, and half a Saturday. That’s the trip we make so you don’t have to.

Donation: where the usable stuff goes

A surprising share of what people call junk still has life in it. Two solid local outlets take donations:

• Rockwall Habitat for Humanity ReStore — 950 Williams St, Rockwall. Furniture, appliances, and building materials in sellable shape; proceeds fund local Habitat builds.
• Goodwill Store & Donation Center — 2855 Ridge Rd, Rockwall. Clothing, housewares, and smaller furniture.
• If part of your pile is donation-grade, tell us when you send photos — separating a donation stack takes minutes and keeps a good couch out of the landfill.

Household hazardous waste has its own system

Paint, chemicals, oil, and batteries can’t ride in a junk trailer or a trash cart — but both counties give residents a legitimate route:

• Hunt County — the Greenville–Hunt County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 3108 Sockwell Blvd, Greenville takes paint, chemicals, oil, batteries, and up to 5 tires per visit at no charge for residents of participating cities and unincorporated Hunt County. Hours are limited: 1st & 3rd Tuesday evenings and the 4th Saturday morning each month.
• Rockwall — the city partners with HHW Solutions for scheduled home collection of hazardous items, so you book a pickup from your porch instead of waiting for a once-a-year event.

The items with real rules (and why)

• Refrigerators and freezers — federal law (Clean Air Act Section 608) requires the refrigerant to be recovered by an EPA-certified technician before a unit is scrapped or landfilled, and the final disposer has to document it. That’s why no legitimate hauler just tips a fridge into a landfill.
• Tires — Texas rules (TCEQ) only allow tires into landfills after they’ve been split, quartered, or shredded. That processing step is why every landfill and tire shop charges a per-tire fee.
• Paint — latex paint can be dried out with cat litter or hardener and put in regular trash; oil-based paint should go through a hazardous-waste program. Royse City’s trash service doesn’t permit paint, oils, or any liquids in the cart.
• Mattresses — no special law, just bulk. Clean ones can be donated; the rest get hauled like anything else.
